The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has decided to temporarily suspend the disciplinary process against Kike Salas, a Sevilla FC player. The entity took this measure while awaiting the results of police and judicial investigations into the case.

The RFEF regulates, supervises and promotes all football competitions in Spain, including professional and amateur leagues, as well as national teams. It is essential for the structure of football in the country.

Therefore, Kike Salas risks losing his license for up to five years, in accordance with the applicable disciplinary rules. The final decision will depend on ongoing legal developments.

Kike Salas suffers serious accusations of match manipulation

On January 14, it was revealed that Salas had been detained by the National Police. He is accused of allegedly manipulating the receipt of yellow cards in an illegal betting scheme.

The allegations indicate that the player had informed bettors about expected results, facilitating fraudulent profits. With this, LaLiga announced its interest in acting as a formal part of the process.

If the charges are confirmed, Kike Salas will face a prison sentence of six months to three years. Additionally, additional disciplinary actions will be considered.

Regulations and possible punishments

According to Article 78 of the RFEF regulations, participation in betting activities linked to the competition constitutes a very serious violation.

The provision establishes fines between €3,006 and €30,051, in addition to other penalties. These include the suspension or revocation of licenses for two to five years.

In situations of repeat offence, those involved may lose their license permanently. According to the regulation, this measure is reserved for serious cases.

However, any sanction will depend on a possible confirmation of guilt. For now, the case remains under analysis, with no definitive conclusion on the player’s future.
