The “Drake curse” strikes again. The Canadian rapper, already known for his exorbitant bets on sporting events, bet US$450,000 (around R$2.4 million) on Nigerian Israel Adesanya’s victory against South African Dricus du Plessis, at UFC 305. What it happened? Plessis won the fight.
The fight took place in Perth, Australia. The South African retained his middleweight belt in the fourth round last Saturday night (17). The information that Drake bet on Adesanya was revealed on Instagram.
Drake has already overcome Mick Jagger’s ‘cold feet’ reputation
Internet users and the winner of the battle did not spare the artist on social media. The winner posted a photo of himself wearing a belt and holding a glass. “Once again, thank you Drake from the bottom of my heart.”, he wrote in the caption.
One fan pointed out that Drake’s repeated bets against Dricus du Plessis “are going to bankrupt Drake at this rate.” “Drake is the worst player of all time,” said another. “The Drake curse is real,” someone joked.
But the new Mick Jagger‘s reputation as an unlucky guy began to grow ten years ago. On that occasion, he expressed his support for tennis player Serena Williams at the US Open. However, the American athlete surprisingly lost to Roberta Vinci in the semifinals.
How much has the rapper lost betting?
The rapper is known for his sports betting, and he has a history of significant losses. Thus, since 2022, he has accumulated a loss of approximately R$25 million (around US$3.5 million) in online betting.
But despite these losses, he also made some gains, totaling around R$6.5 million (approximately US$1.2 million).
Drake has partnered with the betting platform Stake, which is why he often places such high bets. People often make fun of him on social media for his reputation as a “smart guy” when it comes to betting.
A survey published by the website Happy Punch found that Drake’s betting performance is terrible. In other words, the singer has a record of 17 hits out of 189 mistakes, which means that he lost money 92% of the times he tried to predict the result.
However, another source that tracks all of Drake’s bets in a data project (TheDrakeCurse) points out that his track record is 25 wins in 67 bets. Currently, the singer is reportedly making a profit of US$2.2 million in public sports betting, but a loss of US$1.3 million this year.
