Footballer Ivan Toney will be away from all football related activities for 8 months. That’s because the Brentford striker, England’s football team, disrespected the rules of the Football Federation of England (FA) with regard to sports betting.

In addition to the suspension from the sport, the 28-year-old athlete also received a fine of 50,000 pounds (around R$ 300,000 at current prices). The player’s involvement with betting began to be investigated in November 2022.

At the beginning of the investigation, there was no evidence that Ivan Toney would have participated in any match-fixing. However, the local federation suspected that he had placed bets on football matches, a prohibited practice between players and members of football technical commissions in England.

At the end of last year, FA had announced that the Brentford player would have added more than 30 violations of the entity’s rules on sports betting between 2017 and 2021.

Author of 21 goals and 5 assists for Brentford in the 2022/2023 season, he is suspended from football-related activities until January 16, 2024. However, he will be able to return to team training in four months, on January 17 September of this year.

FA note on offenses committed by Ivan Toney involving sports betting

“The Brentford FC forward was charged with 262 breaches of FA Rule E8 between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of those breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232.

Its sanctions were later imposed by an independent Regulatory Commission after an in-person hearing. He is allowed to return to club training for the final four months of his suspension, effective 17 September 2023.

The Independent Regulatory Commission’s written reasons for these sanctions will be published in due course, and the FA will wait to review them before commenting further.”
