The English Football Association (FA) has charged Brentford striker Ivan Toney with more than 232 alleged violations of the betting rules. The sports betting took place between February 2017 and January 2021, and Toney has until November 24 to respond to the allegation.

Earlier this month, the Brentford star said on Twitter that he was assisting the FA with their investigations amid allegations that he had bet on matches.

The FA states that football betting is prohibited for all players, managers, coaches, club employees, directors and licensed agents involved in the Premier League. Such persons are prohibited from betting – directly or indirectly – on any football match or competition taking place anywhere in the world.

“Ivan Toney has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of the FA betting rules,” the FA said in a statement. “The Brentford FC striker is alleged to have breached 232 FA rules between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021. Ivan Toney has until Thursday 24 November to respond.”

Toney had hoped to be among the 26 listed in England’s final 2022 World Cup squad but has failed to earn a place in Gareth Southgate’s plans despite his success with his club in recent months.

The sports betting activity would have taken place before Toney played for Brentford, with no sign that he had been betting against his own team.

His current club stated: “Brentford FC have been informed that Ivan Toney has been charged with breaching FA Rule E8. The club have been in discussion with Ivan and his legal representatives on this matter and these conversations will continue privately. comments until the matter has been concluded”.

Now Ivan will have to respond properly to all these accusations, which could hinder his performance and his history in English football.
