23.7% of fans place sports bets, according to a survey by the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation)

The passion for sport and sports betting is part of the routine of millions of fans in Brazil. In fact, exactly 23.7% of them make sports bets. This data comes from a survey on the profile of the Brazilian fan by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) Academy, in partnership with AtlasIntel, which will be presented on Wednesday (26), during the CBF Summit event.

According to the study, 80.6% of bettors spend up to R$100 per month. However, only 1.7% spent more than R$1,000 monthly.

In this context, it is important to remember that, according to the Ministry of Finance, in the first half of this year, sports betting and online gaming companies grossed R$ 17.4 billion.

However, revenue from the gaming and betting sector reached R$3.797 billion between January and June 2025 alone. It is estimated that this revenue now exceeds R$8 billion.

How does the money earned by fans through sports betting reinvestment in sports?

Betting companies allocated R$ 773.9 million to sports entities and public bodies in the first half of 2025. This amount corresponds to 4.4% of the gross gaming revenue recorded during that period.

The Ministry of Sports received the majority of the funds, totaling R$478.9 million in the first half of the year. Sinesp (National Sports System) received R$154.9 million.

The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) raised R$47.5 million. This is the first year that the regulated betting market has effectively operated in Brazil.

How the destination occurs

The law establishes the division as follows:

  • Private entities – receive 6.3% of the 12%, equivalent to 0.756% of gross revenue. Among the ten beneficiaries are the Brazilian Olympic Committee, with 2.2% of the 12%, and the Brazilian Paralympic Committee, with 1.3%.
  • Contribution to the National Treasury’s single account – accounts for 86.4% of the 12% (10.368% of revenue). This group includes 11 different agencies. The Ministry of Sports receives 22.2% of the 12%, Social Security 10%, and the Ministry of Tourism 22.4%.
  • Image rights and intellectual property – represent 7.3% of the 12% (0.876% of gross revenue). These funds are used as a counterpart to games, competitions, and athletes that become the subject of bets.
