Ontario’s betting market provided C$1.5 billion (US$1.2 billion) in positive economic contributions to the province in its first year of operations, according to research compiled by Deloitte. The report, released by iGaming Ontario on the first day of the Canadian Gaming Summit, noted that the betting industry has created 12,000 new jobs in the region, generating C$900 million in benefits through wage payments.
The report also highlighted that many of the positions created in Ontario were high-paying jobs, with average boards for gaming industry workers at C$103,000. That’s about C$30,000 more than the provincial salary.
Last month, iGaming Ontario (iGO) released its market performance report for the fourth quarter of operations in the province. Between January 1st and March 31st, $10.2 billion was bet, up 20.8% from $8.5 billion in Q3. In just one year, Ontario’s new legal gambling market generated $26.5 billion in wagers.
In terms of revenue, the Canadian province recorded $415.5 million in Q4, representing an increase of 13.6% over Q3 and bringing the annual figure to $1.4 billion.
Rivalry launches app for Ontario betting market
Earlier this month, Rivalry expanded its Ontario operations by launching its mobile sports betting app in the province. The app offers customers the opportunity to place bets on a wide range of traditional sporting events as well as eSports competitions.
