Brazil’s accession to the Macolin Convention has the support of the CBF

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has expressed support for the request made by ministries for Brazil to join the Macolin Convention. This is an initiative that combats match-fixing in sports competitions.

Currently, 50 countries are signatories. The request is an initiative of the Ministries of Sports, Finance, and Justice.

The Integrity Unit is a sector of the CBF dedicated to combating crimes in sports betting and safeguarding the compliance of competitions.

According to Eduardo Gussem, CBF Integrity Officer, the creation of the Unit aims to strengthen the bond of trust in football. “The creation of this department reaffirms the purpose of contributing to initiatives and projects that aim to strengthen the bond of trust between the passion of fans and the practice of football, always favoring the uncertainty of the outcome and protecting the fairness and impartiality of the competitions,” he said.

The commitment to combating match-fixing was one of the themes of the meeting. President Samir Xaud with the Director General of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues, in July of this year. “We want to strengthen the fight against manipulation, with all the agencies involved in this monitoring.”

“We want to bring more transparency to football and put an end to this issue, which is seriously damaging to the sport in Brazil and around the world. We will do everything within our power, as an institution, to combat match-fixing with absolute rigor,” Xaud said at the time.

Furthermore, at the meeting, the CBF president emphasized that the organization relies on partnerships to monitor the sector. According to Samir Xaud, the CBF’s partner company carries out this monitoring work and passes the information to the appropriate agencies, such as the Federal Police (PF) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
