The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Samir Xaud, was in Brasília to meet with the director-general of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues. The meeting took place in Brasília, at the institution’s headquarters, last Monday (27).
According to reports, the CBF president intended to learn about and discuss issues related to integrity and betting manipulation.
According to the Metrópoles website, a cooperation agreement between the Federal Police and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) was on the meeting’s agenda. Among other topics, sports integrity and the fight against match-fixing were among the highlights.
According to information from the portal, the topics that would be present in the cooperation agreement are these:
- Integrity of sport;
- Combating match-fixing;
- Security for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil;
- Security for large events in general.
Also at the meeting, the CBF president stated that his administration’s objective is to strengthen efforts to combat match-fixing in national football.
Samir Xaud seeks to bring more transparency to football
According to Samir Xaud, the CBF’s intention is to bring more transparency to the football and betting environment. “We want to strengthen the fight against manipulation, with all the agencies involved in this monitoring. We want to bring more transparency to football and put an end to this issue, which significantly harms the sport in Brazil and worldwide.”
“As an institution, we will do everything within our power to combat match-fixing even more rigorously,” said Xaud.
Furthermore, the CBF president emphasized that the organization relies on partnerships to monitor the sector. According to Samir Xaud, the CBF’s partner company carries out this monitoring work and passes the information to the appropriate agencies, such as the Federal Police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Another development from the meeting was the information that the CBF president is establishing a dialogue with the federal government. Xaud said he expects a direct meeting with the current president of the Republic soon to discuss these issues, among others.
