Last week, a delegation from the Government of Tocantins visited the Maranhão State Lottery (Lotema) in São Luís. Lotema was chosen as a model of good practices to strengthen the implementation of the Tocantins State Lottery.

During the visit, members of the Tocantins Integrated Management Committee learned about the Maranhão Lottery’s collection systems, internal control and technological solutions, seeking to learn from its success.

Exchange with Lotema could be good for Tocantins

Thus, during the visit, the delegation discussed topics such as investment policies, resource distribution and technologies for process optimization. The program included a presentation on the history and structure of Lotema, as well as a tour of the operational areas.

In this way, the exchange of information between the states of Tocantins and Maranhão was crucial for the advancement of the Tocantins State Lottery, which will be implemented through a concession with the Lototins consortium.

The Secretary of Partnerships and Investments of Tocantins, Thomas Jefferson, emphasized the importance of the visit for learning. “Lotema demonstrates that efficient and transparent management generates not only financial resources, but also positive social impacts. We want to apply these lessons to our state lottery project.”

Tocantins Lottery will start in 2025

The implementation of the Tocantins State Lottery has high expectations of a positive impact. The concession contract between the Government of Tocantins and the Lototins consortium provides for the installation of points of sale in all 139 municipalities in the state, with operations expected to begin in the first half of 2025.

Thus, the project will last 20 years and has the following objectives:

  • combat illegal betting
  • generate employment and income
  • stimulate the economy
  • finance social projects, especially aimed at encouraging sport

Thus, the visit to Lotema in Maranhão reinforced the commitment of the Government of Tocantins to adopt the best management and operational practices in creating its own state lottery. The objective is to ensure that the operation of the Tocantins State Lottery is innovative, efficient and generates significant social benefits for the population of Tocantins.

The following participated in the visit:

  • Secretary of Partnerships and Investments, Thomas Jefferson
  • Director of Administration and Finance at SPI, Thiago Vinicius Lima Duques
  • CIGEMF members of the Tocantins State Lottery: Álan Rickson, Marcos Roberto Moura de Souza, George Sarmento and Marcondes Martins.

Therefore, the Tocantins delegation returns with the mission of applying the learning acquired in creating an efficient and socially responsible lottery model.
