EuroMillions breaks new record, single bet wins biggest UK jackpot ever

A single bet won the biggest prize in the history of the British lottery, according to an announcement last Tuesday, 19th. The amount drawn was £195 million, corresponding to R$1.27 billion at the current price. According to an article by ‘O Globo’, the identity of the lucky man who pocketed the jackpot was not revealed.

“This winner has just become the biggest National Lottery winner of all time, the fourth winner of this year’s EuroMillions jackpot and the 15th UK winner of over £100 million,” said Andy Carter, Winners Advisor at Camelot, which operates the lottery.

This is the second time in 2022 that EuroMillions has broken the record. In May, the couple Joe and Jess Thwaite, from Gloucestershire, in the southwest of England, received a prize of £184 million, which, converted into reais, is equivalent to R$ 1.19 billion.

It is important to emphasize that the identity of the people who won the lottery is only disclosed if they wish to. In this case, the couple chose to appear publicly and tell about the moment they found out they had won the jackpot.

“I looked at my email and there was a message saying I won,” said Joe, who figured it would be a small amount. “When I saw the value, I dropped my cell phone. Then I took it again, looked again at the value and thought it was in thousands.” Initially, Joe thought he had only made 184 thousand pounds (R$ 1 million): “I was so happy!”.

The third biggest prize in the British lottery dates back to 2019, when a bet took £170 million.
