Apple started to release applications from betting operators authorized in Brazil in its official store after a lawsuit filed by the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL). The change occurs amid advances in the regulation of the fixed-odd betting sector in the country.
The entity argued that duly licensed companies were facing difficulties in accessing one of the main digital application distribution channels in the Brazilian market.
In the association’s assessment, the presence of regulated operators on official platforms strengthens supervision and increases transparency in the sector. Furthermore, the measure helps to differentiate authorized companies from platforms that operate outside the rules established by Brazilian legislation.
The action presented by ANJL sought to challenge restrictions applied to legalized betting applications. Although the request for urgent relief was not initially accepted, the decision recognized the existence of a valid regulatory framework for the operation of fixed odds betting in Brazil.
How the decision impacts the regulated betting market
The court order also highlighted that Apple’s own internal guidelines allow applications linked to games, lotteries and betting, as long as the companies comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
In this context, the association understands that access to official stores helps direct users to monitored environments and subject to compliance, identification and responsible advertising mechanisms.
In fact, authorized operators follow specific rules related to the security of operations and the control of activities carried out on the platforms.
For ANJL, limiting the presence of these companies in official stores could favor irregular applications. Furthermore, reduce the efficiency of the Brazilian market regulation process.
The entity also stated that it will continue to monitor the issue institutionally. The objective is to strengthen a regulated environment based on legal certainty, balanced competition, operational responsibility and consumer protection.
ANJL reinforces defense of the regulated environment
The discussion about the distribution of applications gained relevance after the start of regulation of online betting in Brazil.
With the creation of new rules for licensed operators, authorized companies began to seek greater presence in the digital channels used by Brazilian consumers.
At the same time, the sector also intensified the debate on combating the illegal market and strengthening control mechanisms.
In the association’s view, expanding the space of regularized operators on official platforms represents an important step towards consolidating the regulated environment in the country.
