During the launch of the Brazilian Investment Guide in Madrid, Celso Sabino, Minister of Tourism, discussed important issues for foreign investors. Among the topics covered was the potential merger between the airlines Gol and Azul and the possible legalization of betting and casino games (Casinos PL) in Brazil.
Sabino states that the new guide and the more favorable environment for foreign investment increase pressure for the legalization of casinos. Furthermore, he hopes that President Lula will sanction the bill in the first half of the year. He highlighted the importance of this regulation for tourism and attracting large investments.
“The bill that regulates casinos has already been approved in the Chamber and is in the Senate. Our expectation is that it will be approved and sanctioned by the president in the first half of 2025″, stated Sabino.
The minister also emphasized that, with responsible and sustainable regulation, the activity can generate jobs, increase revenue and promote economic development. Furthermore, it can align Brazil with international practices adopted in other countries.
Casinos bill is being processed in the Senate
The bill for casinos in Brazil seeks to regulate the exploitation of betting games in the country. The Chamber of Deputies began the process, discussed and modified the project before approving it.
The proposal aims to establish clear rules for the operation of casinos and bingos, with the aim of promoting tourism and collecting taxes. Currently, the PL is under analysis by the Federal Senate.
The project has not yet received approval, but it generates intense debates about the potential economic benefits and social risks associated with the legalization of gambling.
The discussion in the Senate is crucial, as it will determine whether the project will proceed to presidential approval or whether it will require further revisions. President Lula has already stated that he will sanction the agenda if it is approved in Congress.
The approval of the casino bill could bring significant changes to the Brazilian economy, but it faces resistance from groups concerned about the negative social impact that the legalization of gaming could cause.
The Senate will continue to debate the issue intensively in the coming months, and many expect a decision to take place soon.
