This Tuesday (12), the Bets Parliamentary Inquiry Commission (CPI) was officially installed in the Federal Senate. The objective is to investigate the growing influence of online betting games on the budget of Brazilian families.
Furthermore, the commission intends to investigate possible links with criminal organizations involved in money laundering and the role of digital influencers in promoting these activities.
Elections and composition of the Bets CPI
The session held elections for the positions of president, vice-president and the nomination of the rapporteur. The senators elected Dr. Hiran (PP-RR) as president and Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE) as vice-president. The committee appointed Senator Soraya Thronicke (PODEMOS-MS) as rapporteur.
The commission will be composed of 11 full members and 7 substitutes. The following senators have already been confirmed:

Purposes of the investigation
The Bets CPI aims to investigate the influence of online betting games on the budget of Brazilian families. Furthermore, the commission intends to investigate possible links with criminal organizations involved in money laundering and the role of digital influencers in promoting these activities.
The commission will have 130 days to complete its work, with an expense limit of R$110,000. The investigation will also address the practice of currency evasion and money laundering, in addition to the influence of Brazilian personalities on the operation of betting programs.
CPI Context
The Bets CPI is the second to investigate this type of company in the Senate. The CPI on Match-fixing and Sports Betting, installed in April, had its deadline extended until February 2025. This CPI aims to investigate acts related to allegations and suspicions of match-fixing in Brazilian football. The investigation covers players, managers and betting companies involved in these suspicious practices.
The Bets CPI is a response to the growing concern about the influence of online betting games on the budget of Brazilian families. The commission aims to clarify illegal practices and protect Brazilian citizens.
CPI on the Match-fixing and Sports Betting
The Bets CPI is the second to investigate this type of company in the Senate. The CPI on Match-fixing and Sports Betting, installed in April, had its deadline extended until February 2025.
The collegiate, chaired by senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO), has senator Romário (PL-RJ) as its rapporteur. The CPI on Game and Betting Manipulation aims to investigate acts linked to allegations and suspicions of manipulation of results in Brazilian football, involving players, managers and betting companies.
Testimony from the ‘King of Relegation’
The president of the Bets CPI, senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO), stated this Monday (11) that the collegiate will hear from businessman Willian Rogatto in the coming days.
Authorities arrested Rogatto last Friday (8) in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. In a previous statement to the CPI, the businessman revealed that he was responsible for the relegation of 42 teams. This performance earned him the nickname “King of Relegation” and revenue of R$300 million.
