Stephen Crystal, founder and CEO of SCCG Management, a legend in the global gaming and betting industry, participated in ICE Barcelona and shared his expectations regarding the legalization of land-based casinos in Brazil. Currently, the bill addressing this issue is being processed in the Senate.
Regarding ICE, Crystal emphasized that she has been participating in the event for over two decades. “The event has been fantastic. It’s the biggest ICE event of all time, it’s the biggest event of all time in the world. This is my 21st year at ICE, so it’s quite a milestone.”
“When we started, we were in Earls Court, London, with amusement games and slot machines. Now we are talking about the most sophisticated technology that can be used anywhere in the world for gaming. Technology that we have seen arrive in Brazil,” he added.
What are the expectations for the legalization of land-based casinos in Brazil?
Stephen Crystal, one of the big names in the land-based casino segment, analyzed the scenario in Brazil. “I think very similarly to how I felt about iGaming. We didn’t know when this was going to happen until it did. I think we’re about a year or so away from this problem being resolved in a positive way.”
He also revealed that he is already involved in some projects aimed at implementing casinos integrated into resorts in the country. “I believe Brazil will be an unparalleled destination. I was recently in João Pessoa (PB), analyzing possible locations for the construction of a casino. Therefore, I have a personal interest in seeing and being part of something in Brazil,” he said.
“I’m waiting like everyone else, but I think it will become a truly world-class destination. Brazil is already one of the most incredible destinations for vacations and tourism. Then, being able to present one or two of these destination resorts to a state will be a great success,” he added.
Furthermore, Crystal explained that he adopts a long-term perspective and has been building relationships in Brazil for 15 years. “Nothing happens overnight. So, we monitor progress. We talk to other people who are interested. We work with some of the biggest players in the market, who are investing time and effort to ensure that, if Brazil moves forward, it has the best and most solid opportunity to become a successful industry. I think that, if and when they move forward, they will do it the right way,” he concluded.
