The Sports Commission (CEsp) is about to vote, this Wednesday (4), on a bill that provides for the allocation of part of the resources raised by lotteries for electronic sports (eSports).
Senator Izalci Lucas (PL-DF) proposed the measure, which has already received approval from the Economic Affairs Commission (CAE). If CEsp also approves, the project will go to the Chamber of Deputies for analysis.
The bill, identified as PL 6,118/2023, proposes changes to Law 9,615, of 1998, known as the Pelé Law. The change aims to include the Brazilian Confederation of Games and Esports (CBGE) in the National Sports System. This system is responsible for promoting and improving performance sports practices in the country.
Furthermore, the proposal amends Law 13,756, of 2018, to increase the percentage allocated to sport of resources from numerical prediction lotteries, from 4.36% to 4.40%. This increase of 0.04 percentage points would be allocated entirely to CBGE.
Currently, several sports entities already receive part of the resources raised by lotteries. The Brazilian Olympic Committee, for example, receives 1.73%, while the Brazilian Paralympic Committee receives 0.96%, and the Brazilian Club Committee receives 0.46%.
The project’s rapporteur at CEsp is senator Rodrigo Cunha (Podemos-AL). He has not yet presented his opinion, but has already expressed support for Izalci Lucas’s initiative when he reported the matter at CAE.
Projects under discussion beyond electronic sports
Senator Romário (PL-RJ) presides over CEsp. The commission will also vote on other projects, including the creation of the National Day of Organized Fans, celebrated on December 3 (PL 3.225/2019).
In addition, the proposal that grants the Municipality of Caucaia (CE) the title of National Capital of Kitesurfing (PL 2.260/2024) will be voted on.
