The hotel sector in Espírito Santo is very optimistic about the possibility of creating a casino in the state. In addition to being a great opportunity, the Espírito Santo region has a differential for tourists who are interested in this type of entertainment: the climate of the mountains of the mountain region.

In an interview with A Tribuna, the president of the Brazilian Association of the Hotel Industry (ABIH), Nerleo Caus, highlighted the main benefits for the hotel sector with the creation of a casino.

PL 442/91 – for the release of gambling and casinos in Brazil – is still pending in the Senate and there are still some points to be debated in order to continue the agenda.

A Tribuna: What is your opinion about the project that legalizes the installation of casinos in the country?

Nerleo Caus: I hope it passes. I’m an optimist. Brazil is far behind in terms of tourism. The tourism trade balance is improving, but it is negative. Historically, there are more Brazilians going to spend abroad than foreigners bringing money to Brazil.

The game brings another scenario, it will help a lot in attracting tourists, especially with the exuberance that our country has.

A Tribuna: What is the most appropriate place in Espírito Santo to install this project? For what reason?

Nerleo Caus: Due to the type of tourist, the mountain region of our State would be more suitable to receive the enterprise. It has many differentials, such as climate, ease of communication, proximity to the capital, the airport.

Our beaches are wonderful, but in the Northeast, for example, the casinos will probably be in the beach region. The most differentiated option that Espírito Santo can offer is the mountain region.

In the mountain region, you have Domingos Martins, Pedra Azul, Forno Grande (in Castelo), Caxixe (in Venda Nova do Imigrante). That whole region is ready to offer casino tourists a differential.

A Tribuna: Would you have to start a casino from scratch?

Nerleo Caus: It will be necessary to find an area that has light, water, physical and geographical structure that are easily accessible. And the workforce must be trained and hired in the region. We are in favor of well thought-out gambling, with inclusion, respect for social, environmental and tax legislation.

It has to be a casino that brings fun, permanent shows, art, with a shopping center, hotel, spa, skating rink, that is a space for leisure, for fun, not just for games. We have the hope that the casinos will arrive here in a complete way.

A Tribuna: How many jobs would be created with the installation of a casino in the state?

Nerleo Caus: From 1,000 to 1,500 direct jobs will be created, and from 5,000 to 6,000 indirect ones. And it’s a clean, non-polluting job creator, it’s not an industry. The casino approved with events is a way of maintaining permanent shows and shows, which will create employment opportunities, especially for those who work in this area.

What would you need new in terms of infrastructure? In Pedra Azul, for example, it would be necessary to install a Medical Care Center, a small airport to facilitate access to the region and the duplication of the BR-262, already planned and which will also contribute a lot.
