Nevada governor sets target of reopening at 100% capacity by June 1

Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak has set a goal of easing to have all counties in the state reopened at 100% capacity by June 1.

“I am pleased to announce that I am confident that all counties in the state of Nevada will be able to fully reopen at 100% capacity by June 1,” the governor said during a news conference.

The state will hand over control of pandemic containment measures to municipalities on May 1. Clark County has released its local proposal. The County Commission is expected to vote on the plan on April 20.

“We will do everything we can to help counties get there,” said the governor, adding that he is also setting a statewide goal of removing mandates of social disengagement by May 1.

“To be clear, this does not mean that social distance will no longer exist in the state,” said Sisolak. “Health professionals will reinforce that it is still an important prevention tool. It just means that the state will no longer define the requirements. This issue will also stay with the counties so that they can make decisions based on what works best for their local jurisdictions, ”added the governor.

Dr. Robin Titus, a minority leader in the Nevada Assembly, issued a statement on social detachment: “This is a political calculation in the midst of the most progressive and partisan session in history. Obviously, this is not based on the supposed science that we have used in the past year, but on reelection efforts ”.

Nevada Gaming Control Board will continue to set standards for the gaming industry

The Nevada Gaming Control Board will continue to set the rules for gaming and casino locations. The council emphasized that giving vaccines to employees is essential for the reopening of casinos. At the moment, gaming houses are limited to 50% of the capacity.

However, the COVID-19 case rate in Nevada rose 5% earlier in the week, according to official data. The index has been growing steadily over the past eight days and currently stands at 5.2%, slightly above the rate recommended by health authorities at 5%.

Data from vaccinated people, updated every two days by the state health department, shows that nearly 20% of Nevada’s population is immunized, an amount that is expected to grow rapidly in the coming weeks.
