All the world’s attention will be on the French capital from this Wednesday (24), with the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. There will be more than 10 thousand athletes, distributed across 48 disciplines and 329 sporting events. The games run until August 11th and promise a lot of excitement.
Paris 2024 Olympics and betting favorites
According to Betfair, the USA are the big favorites to top the medal table. With an 89% chance of winning the most medals, the country maintains its hegemony. China remains in second place with a 6% chance, while Japan and Great Britain are tied with 1.5% each.
Brazil will be represented by 277 athletes in Paris, competing in 39 sports. Betfair analysis projects that Brazil has a 41% chance of winning more than 8 gold medals, surpassing its performance in Tokyo 2020. To win up to 7 gold medals, the chances are 58%.
Highlights by modality
ATHLETICS. In the men’s 100 meter dash, Jamaican Kishane Thompson is the favorite with a 38% chance. In the women’s category, Sha’Carri Richardson from the USA has a 50% chance. Brazilian Alisson (Piu) dos Santos, bronze medalist in Tokyo, has an 18% chance in the 400 meter hurdles. The favorite is Rai Benjamin from the USA with 39%.
BASKETBALL. In men’s basketball, the US team, with LeBron James and Stephen Curry, has a 70% chance of winning. Canada and France follow with 8% and 6%, respectively. For Brazil, the chances are minimal, at just 0.3%. In the women’s category, the USA are again favorites with 79%, while Australia and France have 4% each.
CANOEING. Brazilian canoeist Isaquias Queiroz, gold in 2020, is the favorite with a 35% chance in the C-1 1000m category. In 1500m pair canoeing, the chances are lower, just 6%.
SOCCER. In men’s football, France is the main favorite with a 26% chance of winning. Argentina, without Messi, remains in second with 23%, and Spain in third with 21%. In women’s football, the USA leads with 30%, followed by Spain (27%) and France (14%). Brazil has only a 5% chance.
VOLLEYBALL. In women’s volleyball, Brazil has a 26% chance of reaching the podium, and a 15% chance of winning gold. Italy and Turkey are ahead. The men’s team has a 13% chance of the podium and an 8% chance of gold, with Serbia as the big favorite at 20%.
Betting on the Olympics: Brazil is one of the favorites in artistic gymnastics and surfing
ARTISTIC GYMNASTICS. In the table jump, gymnast Rebeca Andrade has a 37% chance of winning gold. But in the other categories, your chances are varied: 33% on the floor, 27% in the individual all-around, 25% on the fixed bar, 14% on the beam and 15% for the team. Simone Biles, from the USA, is the favorite in the vault and individual all-around categories, with a 55% chance.
SWIMMING. In the 100 meter freestyle, Chinese Zhanle Pan is the men’s favorite with a 39% chance, while Australian Mollie O’Callaghan leads the women’s with a 42% chance.
SKATEBOARD. In the men’s Street category, Nyjah Houston (USA) and Ginwoo Onodera (JPN) are tied with 16% chances each. In the women’s category, Liz Akama (JPN) leads with 22%, and Rayssa Leal (BRA) comes in second with 15%. In the Park category, Keegan Palmer (AUS) and Arysa Trew (AUS) are the favorites.
SURF. Gabriel Medina, three-time world champion, is the favorite for the gold medal in men’s surfing with a 27% chance. In the women’s category, Vahine Fierro (FRA) and Caroline Marks (USA) are tied with 22% each.
TENNIS. In tennis, Carlos Alcaraz (ESP) is the favorite with a 26% chance. Novak Djokovic (SER) and Jannik Sinner (ITA) follow with 20% and 16%, respectively.
