Regulation: Sportsbooks promote free programs to combat gambling addiction

The betting sector in Brazil has implemented a series of measures that are part of a process aimed at ensuring a responsible industry and the health of bettors. This is in accordance with the guidelines of the country’s regulated market. Among these measures, effective measures to prevent gambling addiction stand out, as per the law that regulates sports betting in the country (Law 14,790).

Eight months after the regulated market began, bookmakers, other companies in the sector, and influencers have consolidated new measures in this regard, in addition to promoting responsible gaming.

To support efforts to combat gambling addiction, sportsbooks are promoting tools to monitor users’ actions and behavior on their platforms to identify potential compulsive gamblers.

Additionally, they provide options for their audience to set deposit limits, gaming time limits, and loss limits. Alerts are also issued with guidance to players, and users can even self-exclude themselves from the site.

Platforms can also restrict or even suspend access to players considered at risk when necessary, among other measures.

Prevention and reception work

Among the already established initiatives, psychoeducational programs and support for gamblers also stand out. Within the industry, some companies are seeking to develop solutions to ensure addiction prevention, ranging from psychoeducational programs to monitoring and support for gamblers.

In this context, specialized institutions that provide such services to sportsbooks, such as the Brazilian Company for Supporting Compulsive Gamblers (EBAC), are prominent. The company developed the COMPULSAFE program to provide emotional support to compulsive users.

Among the bets that have already joined the program are Grupo NSX (Betnacional and Mr. Jack.bet), Grupo Esportes da Sorte (Esportes da Sorte and Onabet), Grupo Ana Gaming (7K, Cassino and Vera), Casa de Apostas, Betsul and HiperBet.

Integration between monitoring and preventive measures in sportsbooks

Among Brazil’s leading betting platforms, preventing gambling addiction is a constant topic. At Ana Gaming, in addition to participating in the COMPULSAFE program, we also take a proactive approach.

This initiative involves technology, transparency, and player support, as well as the ability to control the player’s behavior. Technological tools analyze betting patterns in real time, identifying players who demonstrate signs of compulsive behavior.

As soon as a risk is detected, the platform issues alerts, providing guidance to the bettor and the possibility of restrictions such as self-testing and self-exclusion. In extreme cases, where a risk situation is considered, the player’s access may be suspended or even restricted.

According to Tagiane Gomide Guimaraes, Legal and Integrity Director at Ana Gaming, this is a constant concern for the brand.

“We have an initiative to constantly monitor gambling behavior, through the analysis of profiles and betting patterns to identify players in risk groups or with potentially compulsive behavior and present treatment options,” he said.

Detect to act against gambling addiction

Casa de Apostas also has an advanced system to identify players who are likely to develop gambling-related disorders.

With EBAC’s COMPULSAFE program, the company highlights the importance of offering guidance and providing support professionals to develop personalized action plans, promoting Responsible Gaming practices.

“From the beginning, our priority has been to ensure the safety, well-being, and best possible experience for bettors. We support industry regulation and are dedicated to developing effective solutions to manage the most serious cases,” explained Anderson Nunes, Head of Business at Casa de Apostas.

Combating gambling addiction benefits the entire betting industry

Beyond social responsibility, combating gaming addiction is beneficial for everyone involved in the industry as a whole. Therefore, it ensures a better experience for players and companies.

This is what Ana Gaming’s Legal and Integrity Director emphasized. “Beyond ethical and social commitment, anti-addiction practices directly contribute to the longevity and stability of the betting industry.”

“The adoption of effective policies and initiatives to combat gaming addiction brings benefits to both players and operators. First and foremost, it protects players’ health and ensures healthy entertainment.”

“In addition to ensuring the reputation and credibility of companies in the sector and the sustainability of the business, as well as compliance with legislation, reducing legal and financial risks for companies,” added Tagiane.
