Brentford striker Ivan Toney is being investigated by the English football federation (FA) for possible involvement in sports betting.

Player Ivan Toney has been accused by the FA of a further 30 alleged violations of betting rules. Remembering that in the last month, he was accused of 232 alleged breaches of the betting rules and that he faces a probable suspension until the end of this season, at least.

Despite the accusations, there is no evidence that the striker has participated in manipulation in the duels in which he was on the field. But the FA suspects that Toney has placed bets on football matches, which is prohibited by the federation to all football players.

The FA have confirmed that they are looking into the alleged violations and that Toney has until 4 January to provide a response. Thus, in a note on social media, the English FA said: ‘Ivan Toney has been accused of misconduct in relation to alleged violations of the FA’s betting rules’. The statement also informs that the attacker has until January 4 to defend himself against the accusations.

Recently, the player went to his social media to clarify the situation and say that he is collaborating with the investigations of the English Federation. In addition, the attacker wrote that he will not comment until everything is resolved. The English club also spoke out, stating that they will not speak out about the case either.

Other English footballers have also had problems with betting

Toney is not the first player to have this kind of problem with the English football association. In 2017, Burnley’s Joey Barton was banned for 18 months, reduced to 13, after acknowledging having placed 1,260 bets on matches, including at least five on which he was on the field.

English right-back Kieran Trippier was banned for 10 weeks by the organization in December 2020 for giving information for others to bet on his transfer from Tottenham to Atlético de Madrid, Spain.

Daniel Sturridge was suspended for four months and fined for offering his brother insider information about his potential transfer from Liverpool to Sevilla in 2018.
