The sports betting sector in Colombia reached 359.405 billion pesos (about US$ 77,927,860) in the first half of 2022, a value that represented an increase of 104% compared to the previous year, when the modality reached 171.415 billion pesos. (US$37,160,250).

In a report by the Colombian newspaper La República, based on figures from Coljuegos and the Colombian Federation of Gambling Companies (Fecoljuegos), it was pointed out that 32% of total sports betting sales correspond to the online sector.

From this, they detailed that “there are 17 sports betting platforms that are authorized by the regulatory authority” and that, of these, the BetPlay brand – owned by Colombian operator Corredor Empresarial – has a 51.43% market share. BetPlay is followed by the following online operators:

  • WPlay with 14.55%;
  • Codere with 11.79%;
  • YaJuego with 5.27%;
  • RushBet with 4.76%;
  • BetFair with 4.34%;
  • Rival with 2.17%;
  • Megapuesta with 1.26%;
  • Sportium with 0.84%.

Rounding off the list are the online platforms Aquijuego with 0.81%, Betalfa with 0.75%, Zamba with 0.52%, Meridian with 0.48%, Bwin with 0.43%, Betsson (ColBet) with 0.36 %, FullReto with 0.15% and Luckia with 0.1%.

In this sense, the general manager of Corredor Empresarial, Germán Segura, highlighted BetPlay’s sales figures and stated that they intend to reach 60%. “On a commercial level, we have close to 50% of the betting market, but we want to reach 60% and continue to strengthen our technological strength as we have done,” he said in an interview with the same media outlet.

Santiago Melo, Country Manager at Betsson Colombia, said: “Since January this year, our active user base has grown by 1.9%. Undoubtedly, an exponential vertical growth that is in line with our objective to be the leading casino on the market” .

Finally, Coljuegos stressed that the gaming industry “continues to go through a historic moment in the country”. For June 2022, in terms of exploration rights, 359,741 million pesos (over US$ 86,470 million) were registered from domestic games alone.
