The bookmaker HTH, aimed at the Chinese market, has closed a partnership with Inter Milan, the Italian Serie A football club. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it has been confirmed that HTH will become the team’s official partner in Asia.
Neither Inter nor HTH have released any further information about the partnership deal, which comes despite Italy’s strict ban on sponsorships related to football betting matches. Italy implemented a total ban on all forms of betting advertisements in the country in January 2019, although agreements in place before this date were allowed to run until the end.
However, the ban only applies to deals in the Italy region, and other clubs such as Juventus and Lazio have signed sponsorship deals focusing on other markets.
This ban has drawn strong criticism, with the Italian Football Federation writing in August last year to the country’s government urging it to lift the ban to help the sport recover financially from the losses suffered during the pandemic.
Some operators avoided this ban and entered into agreements as a form of ‘strike’ with Italian clubs. Last week, SKS365 payment provider PlanetPay365 partnered with Torino FC, following similar agreements with Roma and Fiorentina.
Such agreements do not violate the ban on gambling advertising, as they were carried out through the payment service platform’s branch, PlanetPay365, rather than through the SKS365 betting business.
