What are the key facts about corruption in global sport?
The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) uses its global monitoring and alert platform (Global MAP) to track matches. In this way, the organization oversees 1.5 million matches across 80 sports, generating US$300 billion annually.
Information from operators allowed for the verification of 54 match-fixing incidents in 2025. Furthermore, authorities imposed sanctions on 24 athletes, teams, and managers across five different sports.
Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, stated: “Our 2025 data highlights a familiar pattern of integrity risk, with football and tennis continuing to account for the largest share of suspicious betting activity.
At the same time, the greater scale and reach of our Global Monitoring and Alerting Platform means that our ability to detect, assess, and support investigations across diverse markets and sports disciplines has increased.
This is due to the intelligence generated by our members’ operators and their ongoing commitment to identifying, disrupting, and preventing betting-related corruption through collective action and information sharing with our partners.”
Expansion of the betting market and integrity in the African continent.
The document dedicates a specific section to analyzing the sporting landscape in Africa. In this regard, the association issued 117 alerts regarding events on the continent between 2021 and 2025. Furthermore, the consulting firm H2 Gambling Capital projects that gross revenue from gambling will reach US$19.4 billion in 2030.
Therefore, IBIA advocates for rigorous monitoring and cooperation with regulators to protect the sector. Likewise, early engagement is crucial to ensuring the safety of competitions.
In this way, the strategic use of data supports the preservation of integrity in developing markets. Finally, institutional collaboration strengthens the fight against sports irregularities.
