Playmaker Capital launches two new ice hockey-focused podcasts

Playmaker Capital has launched two new podcast shows focusing on ice hockey. Fans can watch or listen to Barn Burner, starring seasoned radio presenters Dean “Boomer” Molberg and Ryan Pinder, as well as former Calgary Flames player Rhett Warrener.

Molberg joins The Nation Network from Rogers Sportsnet, where he hosted Boomer in the Morning, a daily program aimed at the Calgary sports market. “We are incredibly excited to partner with the group and work together to take our show to another level,” said Molberg.

Barn Burner’s new project comes alongside another addition to The Nation Network’s hockey-focused podcast lineup: Leafs Morning Take. The event will be hosted by former NHL Rogers Sportsnet contributor Nick Alberga and former Toronto Maple Leafs player Jay Rosehill.

Both Barn Burner and Leafs Morning Take will be distributed on YouTube, TikTok and various other social media platforms. Molberg added, “Hockey fans consume content differently today and we’re excited to have the freedom and flexibility to create stuff where, when and how we want it.”

Playmaker ranked podcasts as ‘key elements’ of its strategy

Additionally, these new attractions represent The Nation Network and, by extension, Playmaker’s ongoing commitment to hockey-focused content and digital media more broadly. In fact, Playmaker has emphasized the importance of podcasts to its content roster, considering them as “key elements”.

“Podcasts are fast becoming a primary segment of overall digital ad spend, with podcast advertising in the US projected to grow more than 31% in 2023,” commented Playmaker.

These new programs will also allow Playmaker to double down on two key Canadian demographics, reaching ice hockey fans in Calgary and Toronto.
