Caixa Econômica Federal wants to celebrate the anniversary of its most famous lottery with a major draw.
The institution is in negotiations with the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA), of the Ministry of Finance, to launch the special edition “Mega-Sena 30 years”.
If approved, the edition will have an initial prize estimated at R$ 150 million.
The big draw is that the contest would work in the same way as Mega da Virada, Quina de São João and Lotofácil da Independência: the main prize does not accumulate.
Therefore, if no one gets all six numbers right, the jackpot will be divided among those who get five numbers right, and so on.
What will change in the calendar?
To make this super raffle possible, a change is being discussed. The traditional “Dupla Sena de Páscoa” (Easter Double Sena), which takes place in April, would cease to be held in 2026.
This was a demand presented by the Brazilian Federation of Lottery Companies (Febralot), which sees the Easter product losing competitive strength, since its prizes usually range from R$ 30 to R$ 35 million, amounts considered low for a special event.
Due to this change, the idea is to save the resources from this year’s Dupla (double lottery) to add them to the 2027 draw.
With this, next year’s Easter Double Sena lottery would start with a much more attractive prize, starting at R$ 60 million.
Three decades of history
The initiative aims to celebrate the history of the lottery game that replaced the old “Sena”. The first Mega-Sena draw took place on March 11, 1996, in Brasília.
In that historic debut, the winning numbers were 04, 05, 30, 33, 41, and 52. Curiously, no one won the top prize on launch day, causing the prize money to accumulate.
Now, all that remains is to await approval from the Ministry of Treasury to know if the 30th anniversary celebration will indeed have a new millionaire guaranteed.
