Already a fixture on the calendar for many bettors across Brazil, the Mega da Virada lottery has some exciting news for 2025. The 17th edition of Mega da Virada will pay out the largest prize in the history of Caixa Lotteries. According to the bank, the prize is expected to reach approximately R$ 850 million for those who win the main prize.
However, the expectation is that this number could surpass the R$1 billion mark, something unprecedented in Brazilian lotteries. It’s worth remembering that this type of lottery does not accumulate.
Since its creation in 2008, the Mega da Virada prize has become increasingly popular each year and has established itself as the largest in the country.

Mega da Virada will pay out the biggest prize in history.
The 2025 Mega da Virada lottery could still pay out a billion-dollar first prize since its inception. This change may be possible after the Ministry of Treasury authorized a restructuring of the distribution of the collected funds.
Therefore, the main change occurred in the percentage allocated to the winning lottery category, which increased from 62% to 90%. As a result, the main prize category will receive a larger share of the total prize money.
Consequently, the quina and quadra categories have been reduced. Each will now receive 5% of the proceeds, down from the previous 19%. This redistribution directly changes the expected value of the grand prize for the special end-of-year edition.
Another significant change was the increase in the percentage accumulated throughout the year for the Mega da Virada lottery. Now, the year-end draw will receive 10% of all revenue from regular draws.
Previously, this percentage was 5%. The new rule is already in effect and has been applied in the most recent competitions.
