The Prizes and Betting Secretariat, linked to the Ministry of Treasury, published this Tuesday (18) in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) ordinances that authorize the operation of 18 new betting sites in Brazil.
Furthermore, the permission is valid for five years, scheduled to end on December 31, 2029. However, the only exception is the company HIPERBET, which received authorization until February 18, 2030. Each company paid R$30 million to obtain the operating license.
Most of these betting platforms had already received, in October 2023, temporary authorization from the government to operate in Brazil. Therefore, the permission became final. Check the list of new authorized companies:

The regulated online betting market in Brazil began on January 1, 2025. To operate, companies must comply with a series of government requirements, as well as the obligation to maintain websites with the “.bet.br” domain.
The government claims that the regulation aims to correct “structural problems” and reduce risks associated with betting, such as over-indebtedness.
Among the main measures that came into force are:
- The prohibition of credit for bets and entry bonuses;
- The requirement for bettors to be identified by CPF;
- Facial recognition;
- Control of financial flows.
Companies also need to comply with Brazilian legislation. Therefore, it includes standards for preventing money laundering, financial security and responsible gaming practices.
Betting law in Brazil
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned the law that regulates the online sports betting market in Brazil on December 31, 2023. According to the legislation, minors under 18 years of age cannot place bets. Furthermore, the following are prohibited from participating:
- Owners and employees of betting companies;
- Public agents linked to the regulation and supervision of the sector;
- People with access to the computerized betting system;
- Individuals who may influence game results, such as sports officials, referees and athletes;
- People diagnosed with ludopathy, compulsion to gamble.
Finally, the law also establishes rules for the operation of online casino games, in addition to defining standards for advertising and marketing of betting sites. Therefore, in case of non-compliance, companies are subject to punishments provided for in the legislation.
