For deputy Leur Lomanto Jr, 'gambling is embedded in Brazilian culture'

Federal deputy Leur Lomanto Jr. (União Brasil-BA), supported the approval of the regulation of gambling in Brazil in the Chamber of Deputies. For the parliamentarian, the project tends to help the recovery of the national economy, opening new jobs and income and increasing resources for the public coffers.

Leur Jr. reinforced that in the G20, a bloc of the 20 largest economies on the planet, only three nations continue to ban the practice: Brazil, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia. According to Jornal Grande Bahia, other countries chose to legalize this segment and expanded their sources of income.

“As a result, Brazil has been missing the opportunity to collect more and generate more jobs for the population. We can no longer go against the grain of history”, he emphasized.

In addition, the federal deputy stressed that it is necessary to promote progress on this issue so that there is more transparency, trust and positive results to leverage the country’s economy, which has been severely shaken in the last two years as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic;

“The time has come to address this matter with the seriousness that Brazil needs. Gambling is embedded in Brazilian culture. Its ban only brings harm, as the country fails to increase its revenue and generate employment and income for the population”, he declared.

Leur Lomanto Jr. Supports legalization of the Jogo do Bicho

The parliamentarian also defended the legalization of the Jogo do Bicho. “The Jogo do Bicho, for example, has been a reality for decades in Brazil, so the time has come to leave this issue in the open and provide for its regulation”, he concluded.

Recent studies show that Brazil fails to raise approximately 20 billion reais annually, as well as opening 700,000 new direct and indirect jobs, not counting the regularization of gambling.
