Mundo Planalto, a company from Goiás, is considering installing a casino at the Hard Rock Hotel under construction in Gramado, a city in Rio Grande do Sul. The company is implementing and will manage the project.

CEO José Roberto Nunes stated that the legislation allowing this operation is still being processed in the Senate and needs presidential approval and sanction. “Our contract is for a license to use the brand and hotel management,” he highlighted.

“We still don’t have casino permission in Brazil and, therefore, we haven’t negotiated this in the contract. But the hotel was designed to be an integrated resort and has space, structure and capacity. Furthermore, the brand is among the largest in the world in terms of casinos”, he added.

The expectation is that the Cassinos PL will be put to a vote and approved after the parliamentary recess, on August 1st. The text, which has already been approved by the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ), should pass the Senate Plenary soon.

Hard Rock investment

With an estimated investment of R$1 billion, the resort will have 858 apartments, five restaurants, a spa, a shopping mall and a large space for events. The companies Mundo Planalto, JFG, Argon, Toctao and Grupo Feltrin will build the resort in an area of 143 thousand m².

In September 2023, Alex Pariente, senior vice president of Hard Rock International, was in Gramado to visit the site of the future resort. So, he concluded that the city is “prepared to receive international tourists”. Accompanying Pariente were:

  • Martin Arauz, director of legal affairs at Hard Rock International
  • José Roberto Nunes, CEO of Mundo Planalto
  • Lorena Leão and Wesley Reis, partners at Mundo Planalto

Impact on Tourism

Gramado received around 5.37 million tourists from January to August 2023, according to City Hall. This represents an increase of 10% compared to the same period in 2022.

But the expectation is that the new hotel will attract even more visitors, boosting the economic development of the region. In addition, Gramado will help expand the Hard Rock brand in Brazil with two more hotels:

Therefore, the arrival of these projects promises to consolidate Hard Rock as a reference in the country’s hotel sector.
