One fact that proves the active participation of the betting sector is that among the 40 clubs that qualified for the next phase of the Libertadores and the South American, 29 have a betting house as a sponsor. In the case of the Brazilians, all the clubs that qualified for both competitions have a sponsorship contract with sportsbooks.
In the Libertadores, Botafogo (VBet), Palmeiras (SportingBet), Internacional (Alfa), Fortaleza (Casino), São Paulo (SuperBet) and Flamengo (Fla.bet/Pixbet) are the sponsored Brazilians; while in the South American, Bahia (Viva Sorte), Grêmio (Alfa), Fluminense (Superbet), Vasco (Betfair) and Atlético-MG (H2Bet) are present.
Also with 100% are the four clubs from Colombia and three from Peru, Chile and Ecuador. In Argentina, of the nine teams that remain in the World Cup, only three clubs are sponsored by a betting company.
“It is a mature and regulated market in several countries, proving a reality of investment in the main leagues in the Americas and the world; some more, others less, but which demonstrate the importance of this global industry in football”, said Filipe Molon, commercial director of Ana Gaming, the brand that owns 7k, Vera and Cassino.
Details of sponsorships between bookmakers and football clubs
In Argentina, this process has recently begun. River Plate has signed with Betano, while Boca Juniors and Racing, winners of the South American Cup and the Recopa, are carrying the Betsson brand.
However, the difference between the amounts offered to Brazilian clubs is large. At least 14 teams in the first division of the Brasileirão receive more than Boca and River.
Corinthians, Flamengo and Palmeiras receive more than R$100 million, almost three times as much as the main Argentine clubs. In Brazil, the expectation is that the amount allocated to football sponsorships will exceed R$1 billion per year.
