Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina approves bill regulating charity bingo games in the state

The Legislative Assembly of Santa Catarina (Alesc) approved this Wednesday (10) a bill that regulates the holding of charity bingo games in the state. Therefore, the text is authored by deputy Antídio Lunelli.

The proposal had been awaited for years by community entities, mothers’ clubs, senior citizen groups, churches, and social organizations that traditionally use bingo as a way to raise funds, support charitable causes, and as a leisure activity.

With this approval, Santa Catarina officially recognizes these initiatives. In other words, it guarantees legal security so that charitable and social events can continue to be held responsibly and transparently.

In this way, Representative Antídio Lunelli celebrated the victory and highlighted the importance of the measure in strengthening the work of the communities.

“This is a great victory for the communities, mothers’ clubs, churches, senior citizen groups, and all the organizations that work for the common good and have been waiting for this regularization for years. We hope that Governor Jorginho Mello will approve it in the coming days,” he commented.

Lunelli also thanked the parliamentarians who contributed to the approval of the project. “I want to thank each and every representative who voted in favor. This victory is not mine—it belongs to the communities of Santa Catarina that make a difference every day.”

A bill currently being debated in Congress could legalize bingo in Brazil.

A bill currently being processed in the Senate, the famous Casino Bill, could legalize land-based casinos, bingo halls, the jogo do bicho (a type of lottery), horse racing bets, and other forms of gambling in Brazil.

The proposal has already been approved by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate’s Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ). The project’s rapporteur, Senator Irajá, estimates that the government could collect more than R$ 20 billion in annual taxes. Furthermore, the project has the potential to boost tourism and generate jobs and income.
