Rio de Janeiro government regulates VLTs and Loterj strengthens accreditation and inspection

The Rio de Janeiro Government published, this Tuesday (19), Decree 49.804. The norm regulates Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs), totems and betting terminals. Thus, the state estimated potential of up to 65 thousand jobs and stimulus to tourism.

Safety and control measures for VLTs

The decree defined requirements for safe operation and continuous monitoring. Furthermore, it established procedures for user identification and registration.

  • Secure operation: accreditation with Loterj (Rio de Janeiro State Lottery), real-time traceability, biometric authentication, player registration and prohibition of cash payments.
  • Points of sale must follow controls and messages of responsibility to consumers.

VLT stores and sports bars are now included in the regulations. Therefore, these establishments must adopt QR Codes and responsible gaming messages. They must also maintain visible communication regarding the current rules.
