Cooperation between CBF and SIGA reinforces the integrity and modernization of Brazilian football

Integrity in football was on the agenda of a meeting between Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, Global CEO of the Sport Integrity Global Alliance and President and CEO of SIGA LATIN AMERICA, and Samir Xaud, President of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The meeting took place in Rio de Janeiro, on Tuesday (28), at the CBF headquarters, and marks a new milestone in cooperation between the two institutions.

In this way, consolidating the agreement signed in March 2024 and reaffirming the joint commitment to integrity, as well as to good governance and the modernization of Brazilian football.

The meeting marked a frank and constructive dialogue, with the objective of prioritizing strategies that will shape the future of football in Brazil. Leaders from SIGA and CBF discussed priority areas for cooperation, with a special emphasis on good governance.

Beyond Integrity in Sports Betting, Financial Integrity and Transparency, Sustainability and Professionalization of Football. All these are areas in which SIGA holds expertise and global leadership.

How the meeting reinforces both entities’ commitment to integrity in football.

With a three-decade career at the forefront of European and world football, Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros is the founder and was the CEO-elect for over a decade of the Association of European Leagues. He also worked in conjunction with the Association of World Leagues, which brings together all professional football leagues at the European and global levels.

Throughout his professional career, he has held leadership positions in major institutions. The list includes the Portuguese Professional Football League, UEFA, FIFA, the World Economic Forum, the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the OECD, B20, and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), among others.

Their vast experience and recognized leadership solidify SIGA’s position as a global benchmark in advocating for integrity, good governance, and sustainability in sports.

During the meeting, the President & CEO of SIGA LATIN AMERICA also presented the progress achieved by the organization in Brazil. According to him, this is due to cooperation agreements signed with the Ministry of Sport, the Ministry of Finance, and the Comptroller General of the Union.

Furthermore, the Paulista Football Federation and the CBF itself participated, in addition to several other public and private entities. He also highlighted the Cooperation Agreement signed with the National Congress, through the Parliamentary Front for the Modernization of Football, which requested SIGA LATIN AMERICA to prepare an independent study on the future of Brazilian football.

This study included an analysis of the functioning, organization, and competencies of professional leagues, as well as the legal admissibility of creating a professional soccer league in Brazil.

According to Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros, the meeting legitimized the mutual commitment of the two institutions. “This meeting reinforced the shared commitment between SIGA and CBF to a future of excellence, integrity, and modernization for Brazilian football. President Samir Xaud demonstrated leadership, strategic vision, and a reformist spirit, which deserve my recognition.”

“SIGA, as an independent organization and world leader in sports integrity, is committed to supporting the CBF with its knowledge, experience and global networks, contributing to the implementation of best practices and solutions that strengthen good governance, integrity and sustainability in Brazilian football,” he stated.
