AMIG – Associação de Mulheres da Indústria do Gaming stated that it received with surprise and concern the speech by the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in honor of International Women’s Day, a date considered central as it symbolizes the historic struggle for equal rights, decent working conditions and against machismo and violence.
In AMIG’s assessment, the date goes beyond symbolism and acts as a continuous reminder of the collective responsibility to change structures, expand opportunities and ensure the presence of women in leadership and decision-making spaces in all sectors, including the Brazilian gaming and betting industry.
“For us, International Women’s Day represents a moment of reflection on advances and challenges, but also of recognition of the work of thousands of professionals who help build entire sectors of the economy”, highlights the entity.
What AMIG points out about the gaming and betting sector in Brazil
By criticizing the sector, the President highlights, according to AMIG, lack of knowledge about a market that generates employment, income and revenue for the government itself and which, in addition, employs and recognizes female leaders.
“Today, thousands of women work directly in the gaming and betting industry in Brazil, occupying strategic roles and contributing to the evolution of the sector”, points out the association.
Currently, AMIG brings together more than 1,400 members, professionals who work daily in building an ethical, responsible, innovative and economically relevant gaming and betting sector in Brazil. These women hold strategic positions in technology, compliance, legal, marketing, payments, sports integrity and corporate governance.
Furthermore, AMIG’s most recent survey indicates that women participate in all stages of the industry’s production chain, directly contributing to a more professional, safe ecosystem aligned with best international practices.
Economic impact on revenue and public policies
AMIG states that it represents a relevant portion of the gaming and betting industry in Brazil, a sector described as legal, regulated and responsible, which contributes to technological advances, improvement of advertising practices, investments in sport and strengthening of responsible gaming policies.
This effect also appears in the economy. In the last year alone, operators paid 4.5 billion reais in specific allocations, resources that return to society through different public policies.
In this sense, AMIG highlights that a significant part of this result comes from the daily and dedicated work of women who started from scratch in a sector that did not exist years ago.
Why AMIG defends the valorization and protection of women in the sector
With this level of economic and social impact, and with the potential to become one of the three largest regulated markets in the world, AMIG maintains that the sector cannot move forward without being taken seriously and without considering the promotion of gender equality and the strengthening of the female presence in strategic roles.
Even so, the entity maintains a central commitment to respect, value, encourage and expand the participation of highly qualified women in leadership, decision-making and innovation spaces within the industry.
Furthermore, AMIG assesses that it is not acceptable to take advantage of a moment of exaltation for Brazilian women to trigger a threat that could have a direct impact on working women who support their families in an ethical and dignified manner.
“It is not acceptable to use a date dedicated to the appreciation of women to make statements that could affect professionals who act ethically and responsibly”, stated in the association’s note.
In relation to International Women’s Day, the association also reinforces that the future of the gaming and betting sector in Brazil must involve valuing the leadership, competence and transformative vision of the women who build it daily.
“The growth of this market is also consolidated as a story built by women”, concludes AMIG.
