The Kambi Group acquired global eSports specialist Abios for an initial consideration of SEK150 million (US$17.2 million) in cash, with up to SEK120 million to be paid in earnings.

Such gains will be related to product development and future revenue performance of Abios. The agreement “transforms Kambi into a leading provider of sports products and services as it seeks to capitalize on emerging opportunities within this rapidly growing vertical,” read a statement from the sports betting company.

“The eSports category has long been carefully considered by Kambi and now we feel it is an opportune time to take the next step and build our capacity in what is a high-potential global vertical,” said the CEO and co-founder of Kambi, Kristian Nylen.

“At Abios, we’ve gained the sporting DNA that we’ve been striving for and that complements the heritage and experience we already have in sports betting.”

The acquisition was led by Abios CEO Oskar Fröberg and CTO Anton Janér, both of whom will remain in their roles after the deal.
