The project that aims to allow casinos, bingo and Jogo do Bicho in physical establishments gained strength in the Senate. The rapporteur, senator Irajá (PSD-TO), argues that these modalities represent the “good” and “responsible part” of the games.

Casino PL faces resistance from the evangelical bench

In June, the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) approved the proposal with a narrow result: 14 votes in favor and 12 against. During this vote, the evangelical contingent, which sought to block the initiative, was unsuccessful.

For Senator Irajá, controversies surrounding online betting should not interfere with discussions about physical games. Because these have enormous potential to contribute economically and socially.

“I’m even more excited about the approval of the physical games project. Because, in truth, physical games are the best part of games, because they generate jobs, generate income, you drive the real economy, construction “, highlighted Senator Irajá.

The senator mentioned that countries that have already regulated physical games demonstrate significant benefits. “The indicators from other countries that have already approved physical gambling, responsible gambling, prove by A plus B that these were the right decisions, that [physical gambling] boosted tourism in these countries,” he stated.

Furthermore, Senator Irajá pointed out that monitoring activities in physical establishments is an advantage over online betting. “If you have a physical establishment, you can send the police to inspect it, control people’s access and the Federal Revenue Service can audit it,” he explained.

The fight against organized crime

Senator Irajá believes that regularizing games in physical locations could help combat organized crime. “We are going to create a much healthier environment, because we are going to invite serious and reputable companies to enter this market”, he highlighted.

The senator predicts that the project can be voted on after the elections, still in October. “We have the necessary support for this agenda to be voted on and approved. It is not a religious agenda, it is not an ideological agenda. In other words, it is a positive economic agenda for Brazil”, he clarified.

The evolution of this proposal reveals a new dynamic in the debate about casinos, bingos and other forms of betting in Brazil. Thus, the promise is that it can generate jobs and strengthen the economy and tourism. It now remains to be seen how this proposal will progress in the legislative scenario after the municipal elections on October 6th.
