STJD reschedules hearing on Bruno Henrique’s appeal

The Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) rescheduled for next Monday (10) the hearing of Bruno Henrique’s appeal request. The Flamengo striker received a 12-game suspension. The accusation against the player is for having forced a yellow card, in a Brasileirão game, and the action would have benefited bettors, in 2023.

Following the decision to impose the punishment, the STJD Prosecutor’s Office filed an appeal to increase Bruno Henrique‘s suspension. This appeal will be judged next Monday.

Despite the conviction, Bruno Henrique has been playing due to a stay of execution granted by the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) on September 13th. The appeal hearing was originally scheduled for October 30th.

However, the STJD postponed all sessions last week for public safety reasons. This came days after a major operation against the Comando Vermelho faction in Rio de Janeiro, where the trial was to take place.

What did Bruno Henrique do to receive the punishment?

According to investigations by the Federal Police (PF) and the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP), Bruno Henrique allegedly forced a yellow card. According to the case file, the objective of the action was to manipulate the match statistics.

In this way, the player intended to benefit bettors on specialized websites. This occurred in the game against Santos on November 1, 2023. The match, valid for the Brazilian Championship, took place at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília.

Other people connected to the athlete also received punishment from the STJD (Superior Court of Sports Justice) in early September. Therefore, in addition to the Flamengo striker, the player’s older brother, Wander Nunes Pinto Júnior, is also among those involved.

According to the prosecution, people connected to the athlete were also involved in the manipulation. The punishment was repeated for some of Bruno Henrique’s friends: Claudinei Vitor Mosquete Bassan, Andryl Sales Nascimento dos Reis, and Douglas Ribeiro Pina Barcelos. A noteworthy detail is that all of them are former players and were identified as participants in the irregularity scheme.
