The Legislative Assembly of Mato Grosso (ALMT) will hold a public hearing next Friday (23) to discuss the implementation of municipal and state lotteries in the state of Mato Grosso. The proposal, presented by state deputy Elizeu Nascimento (PL), aims to direct the revenue from these games to direct investments in the municipalities.
Representatives from the National Association of Municipal and State Lotteries (Analome) and several municipalities will participate in the event. In addition, the hearing seeks to expand the dialogue on alternatives to increase municipal revenue, especially during times of economic hardship.
Elizeu Nascimento stated: “Following the example of Cuiabá, where we have Lotec (Cuiabana Lottery), Lottopar (state of Paraná) and Loterj (state of Rio de Janeiro), we want to expand this model to the entire state of Mato Grosso.
We are proposing the debate because we believe in the potential of lotteries. Currently, there are numerous illegal gambling platforms operating in the country. Why not legalize municipal lotteries?”
The parliamentarian highlighted that part of the funds raised could benefit essential areas such as health, education and infrastructure. Consequently, this would help solve critical problems faced by municipalities.
“Imagine millions in revenue being directed to the main challenges we face in Mato Grosso: health, education and infrastructure. This is the main benefit that the lotteries will bring – resources to solve problems such as poor service in health clinics, hospitals, potholed roads, open sewage and many others”, concluded the deputy.
Therefore, the initiative aims to create an additional source of revenue for municipalities in Mato Grosso. However, the success of the proposal will depend on the results of the discussions during the public hearing.
