With the aim of presenting the platform to the market and the general public, the Federal Government held the Consumidor.gov.br webinar last Wednesday (21). The event was organized by the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, and the Ministry of Treasury, through the Secretariat of Prizes and Bets (SPA).
Consumidor.gov.br presents itself as a platform that can effectively contribute to the mediation of conflicts between companies in the sector and bettors.
The event takes place amid a context of advances in the regulation of sports betting and online gaming in Brazil. With the market expanding, it is increasingly necessary to ensure respect for the rights of consumers/bettors. In this way, defining a safer, more transparent and balanced environment for the entire sector.
At the opening, the director of the Department of Consumer Protection and Defense (DPDC), Vitor Hugo do Amaral, commented on the tool. “Building a responsible betting market necessarily involves strengthening consumer protection tools. Consumidor.gov.br plays a strategic role in this scenario,” he said.
Next, the deputy secretary of SPA, of the Ministry of Treasury, Carolina Yumi, spoke about the role of the regulated market. According to her, the betting market, upon becoming regulated, assumes responsibilities. Thus, not only to comply with tax and legal obligations, but also to adopt good practices of action
“It is essential that companies offer efficient, resolute and transparent channels, ensuring that the betting environment is not only safe from a legal point of view, but also respectful, ethical and aligned with the rights of Brazilian consumers,” he said.
How the Consumidor.gov.br platform works
During the webinar, experts from Senacon and SPA presented the platform’s features in an educational manner, explaining how it works in practice, both for consumers and companies in the sector.
On that occasion, aspects such as the service flow were also detailed, as well as other functionalities, such as public and internal indicators, response times and the use of data to improve business practices.
According to the general coordinator of the National Consumer Protection Information System, Alexandre Shiozaki, the platform has several functionalities. “The platform is not only a complaints channel, but also a management tool, which generates data for monitoring, prevention and continuous improvement in service.”
The presentation on the ongoing monitoring of the performance of betting companies was led by the SPA’s General Coordinator of Responsible Gaming Monitoring, Daniele Cardoso. “Monitoring the performance of companies on Consumidor.gov.br allows us to identify patterns of conduct and assess whether practices are aligned with the principles of responsible gaming and consumer protection,” she said.
The webinar also featured the participation of the National School for Consumer Protection (ENDC), linked to Senacon. The entity officially launched a training project for betting houses.
“The objective is to offer knowledge to both companies and consumers, strengthening consumer relations, especially in a market that is new to many Brazilians,” explained ENDC coordinator Ana Menezes.
The closing ceremony was marked by an interactive space, with clarification of doubts and additional guidance. The activity reaffirmed the commitment of the MJSP and the Ministry of Finance to ensure that the process of regulating betting in Brazil is accompanied by robust consumer protection mechanisms, promoting a safer, more transparent and responsible environment for all involved.
