Women are the majority in the Brazilian online betting market. This is the first time that they have outnumbered men in the market. The figures are from the “Women in Betting” survey, carried out by the Association of Women in the Gaming Industry (AMIG) in partnership with the KTO platform.
According to the study, today they correspond to 51% of the betting public in the country.
According to the survey, the predominant profile of gamblers is made up of women between 18 and 39 years old, with completed higher education. In addition, they belong to the middle class and are concentrated mainly in the states of São Paulo, Bahia and Rio de Janeiro.
Most of them access the platforms via mobile devices, and football is the preferred sport for 65% of them.
The study also points out that, despite the growth in female participation, women are more cautious when gambling than men. Around 40% of the women interviewed say they gamble weekly, however, 37% limit their spending to up to R$200 per week.
Many also use control tools to avoid addiction and seek information before placing bets. Of these, 20% consult sports news, 19% use their own repertoire and 16% seek advice from acquaintances.
Advancement of women in the betting sector
For João Fraga, CEO of Paag, a technology company focused on the iGaming sector, the growing presence of women in the segment requires a change in approach on the part of platforms.
“Sports betting has always been designed with a male audience in mind. The growth in female participation shows that the sector needs to evolve,” he said.
