The amount represents an increase of <strong>23,000% <\/strong>compared to the same period last year. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In May alone, revenue reached <strong>R$814 million<\/strong>. This amount corresponds to the <strong>12% tax on gross betting revenue<\/strong>, known as <strong>Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR)<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, the market reached an impressive value in the first five months of the year. Based on data released by the <strong>IRS<\/strong>, it is possible to estimate that the gross revenue of the <a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/legislation-en\/2025\/06\/04\/betting-sector-entities-request-meeting-with-ministers-after-iof-proposal\/\">online betting sector<\/a> exceeded <strong>R$25.2 billion<\/strong> in the accumulated amount up to May. This value already exceeds the projections made before the regulation of the sector.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In August last year,<strong> Ita\u00fa<\/strong> released a report with estimates on the size and impact of the online gambling market. Based on the balance of payments, the institution projected that the sector would move between <strong>R$8 billion<\/strong> and <strong>R$20 billion per year<\/strong>, with an<strong> average of R$12 billion<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, <strong>these values \u200b\u200bwere exceeded in just five months<\/strong>, according to data from the Federal Revenue Service.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Regulation of the betting sector<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/sports-betting-en\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"Sports Betting\">Sports betting<\/a> regulations in Brazil<\/strong> have been in force since January 1st. Therefore, the government raised R$2 billion from the payment of concession fees alone. Authorities took down thousands of irregular websites during the transition process to the new regulated environment. In addition, communication campaigns began to emphasize the concept of \u201cresponsible gaming\u201d more strongly.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year, the <strong>Federal Senate <\/strong>approved <strong>Bill No. 2,985\/2023<\/strong>, which establishes new rules for <a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/legislation-en\/2025\/05\/30\/betting-sector-reacts-to-bill-limiting-advertising\/\">advertising by sportsbooks.<\/a> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The text prohibits the presence of artists, athletes, digital influencers, members of technical committees, communicators, authorities or any individual in advertising material for betting companies, even if they appear as extras.
