{"id":135338,"date":"2023-12-21T14:22:57","date_gmt":"2023-12-21T17:22:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/uncategorized\/2023\/12\/21\/google-tiktok-and-meta-fail-to-comply-with-advertising-rules-on-sports-betting\/"},"modified":"2023-12-21T14:29:00","modified_gmt":"2023-12-21T17:29:00","slug":"google-tiktok-and-meta-fail-to-comply-with-advertising-rules-on-sports-betting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/sports-betting-en\/2023\/12\/21\/google-tiktok-and-meta-fail-to-comply-with-advertising-rules-on-sports-betting\/","title":{"rendered":"Google, TikTok and Meta fail to comply with advertising rules on sports betting"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recently, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.br\/fazenda\/pt-br\">Ministry of Finance<\/a> issued notices to<strong> technology giants Meta, TikTok and Google,<\/strong> alleging violations of<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/aposta-esportiva\/\"><strong>sports betting<\/strong> <\/a>advertising rules in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This action comes after four meetings in which Brazilian authorities pressured these <strong>big techs<\/strong> to adapt to established regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the notifications, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/legislation-en\/2023\/12\/19\/ministry-of-finance-does-not-want-to-give-up-taxation-on-online-casinos\/?doing_wp_cron=1703179652.5703260898590087890625\">Ministry of Finance<\/a><\/strong> highlighted that only a small portion of the sector&#8217;s communication, advertising and marketing actions comply with current regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the media broadcast does not present age restriction notices and warning clauses, violating <a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/legislation-en\/2023\/12\/20\/betting-pl-arthur-lira-signals-that-the-chamber-will-return-with-taxation-of-online-casinos\/\">regulations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short, digital <a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/sports-betting-en\/\">sports betting<\/a> advertising is being served without &#8220;<strong>18+<\/strong>&#8221; labels, similar to those used in beverage advertisements, and without warnings such as &#8220;<strong>prohibited for under 18s.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The government held meetings with the platforms involved, seeking to raise awareness of the standard, advising them to adopt appropriate measures and adapt to the legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This information was obtained by Jornal N\u00facleo through the Access to Information Law and replicated by Olhar Digital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To date, none of the big techs mentioned have issued an official position on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Government rules for sports betting advertising on TikTok, Meta and other platforms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The federal government has established ordinances that regulate the accreditation of websites interested in exploring <a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/sports-betting-en\/\">sports betting<\/a> in Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, these regulations define &#8220;<strong>responsible gaming<\/strong>&#8221; guidelines with the aim of preventing addictions and inducing vulnerable people into debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These <strong>guidelines include prohibiting betting advertising in schools and universities<\/strong>. As well as the requirement for warnings or prohibition seals for children and adolescents in all advertising pieces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The list also includes misleading marketing about possible winnings, suggestions that gambling contributes to personal and financial success, and promotion by celebrities and influencers are strictly prohibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additionally, the <strong>regulations do not allow the suggestion that betting is a source of income, investment<\/strong> or a way to compensate for financial losses and unemployment. Other prohibitions include sexual appeal and associations with virtues such as courage and maturity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Monitoring<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These measures aim to ensure ethical and responsible advertising in the <a href=\"https:\/\/igamingbrazil.com\/en\/sports-betting-en\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"Sports Betting\">sports betting<\/a> sector in Brazil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While the government, through the Ministry of Finance, <strong>continues to closely monitor<\/strong> the practices of big techs to ensure compliance with established regulations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recently, the Ministry of Finance issued notices to technology giants Meta, TikTok and Google, alleging violations of sports betting advertising rules in the country.
