The Directorate General for Gaming Regulation (DGOJ), of the Ministry of Social Rights and Consumer Affairs of Spain, held the inaugural session of the new Advisory Council for Responsible Gaming on Thursday (19).
During the meeting, after the previous council’s term of office had ended, the members were renewed.
The Director General of Gambling Regulation, Mikel Arana, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board, chaired the meeting. The Board aims to include professionals and representatives from the General Administration of the State and the Autonomous Communities of Spain.
In addition to experts from the scientific, health and academic fields involved in activities related to gaming disorders, as well as representatives of institutions linked to the gaming sector, as in previous compositions.
Additionally, the DGOJ presented the draft Safe Gaming Program 2026–2030, a strategic document that outlines the policy framework and priorities for the next four years for the gaming sector in Spain.
The project defines three main priorities: updated analysis and diagnosis of the current scenario, prevention and promotion of safe gaming practices and protection of participants.
It also sets out six overarching objectives and twenty-two specific measures designed to promote new lines of collaboration with the Advisory Council.
The newly appointed Council will have three months to provide feedback and recommendations on the draft. The aim is to reach consensus and approve a final version of the program at the Council’s next meeting, which will serve as a roadmap for public policy on safe gambling.
