The Ministry of Sports has taken another important step in regulating sports betting by signing Cooperation Agreements with five specialized entities. The agreements, signed this Wednesday (14), include the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA), International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), Sportradar, Associação de Bets e Fantasy Sport (ABFS) and Genius Sports.

These partnerships aim to prevent fraud and match-fixing, protecting sporting integrity. In this way, Brazil seeks to align itself with international best practices, ensuring a fair environment for athletes, clubs, fans and regulated betting operators.

Sports Minister André Fufuca said: “We have signed a milestone in the fight against match-fixing in Brazilian sports. Integrity must be a recurring voice when it comes to transparency, ethics and, above all, the correction of sports results.

With these agreements, we will have more than enough instruments to curb this practice and allow greater transparency in sports competitions.”

These entities already operate in countries such as Canada, England and Australia. The National Secretary of Sports Betting, Giovanni Rocco Neto, highlighted that the partnerships will strengthen the department’s actions against fraud.

Therefore, he highlighted: “The celebration of agreements with companies specialized in sports integrity is of fundamental importance for strengthening trust and transparency in competitions.

They have the necessary technology to monitor bets, detect suspicious patterns and prevent match-fixing.”

Practical implementation

After signing, the companies will provide data, methodologies and technological support to the Ministry of Sports, in addition to training professionals to monitor the sports betting sector.

Felippe Marchetti, Sportradar’s Director of Integrity for Latin America, explained: “We will contribute not only by sharing intelligence and information on matches suspected of match-fixing, but also by educating employees and athletes about the Brazilian scenario.

With our expertise, we will collaborate with the Brazilian State in the construction of a national policy to combat the manipulation of results.”

The first training session will take place this Thursday (15). For Tiago Horta, head of Integrity at Genius Sports, the partnership is an essential cooperation between the public and private sectors.

He stated: “It is an extremely serious problem, the solution of which requires the action of several sectors. It is impossible to solve it only with the isolated action of the government, the private sector or sports entities.

It is a joint action. This agreement came exactly to contribute to the construction of a strong framework to combat match-fixing in Brazilian sport.”

The agreements will be valid for five years, allowing new mechanisms to be established in the future.
