The Public Ministry of the Federal District and Territories (MPDFT) wants to hear Flamengo striker Bruno Henrique in an investigation that investigates possible illegal bets on the 2023 Brazilian Championship.

This investigation is highlighted due to the seriousness of the accusations and the great repercussions on the national sports scene.

Details of the charges and parallel investigations

The CNN portal claims that they accuse Bruno Henrique of “acting deliberately” in the match against Santos, on November 1, 2023, aiming to receive a yellow card.

This action was allegedly planned so that family members, aware of this strategy, could profit from sports betting. This accusation raises questions about the integrity of matches and the influence of bets on the outcome of games.

At the same time, the Federal Police are conducting their own investigation into the case, which is expected to be completed within 30 days. In November of last year, operations by the Gaeco-MPDFT and the Federal Police targeted Bruno Henrique, resulting in 12 search and seizure warrants in cities such as Rio de Janeiro and Belo Horizonte.

Among those investigated were the player, his brother, a sister-in-law, a cousin and several people close to him, which intensifies the complexity of the case.

New developments on possible gambling involvement

Investigators also identified four new bettors, expanding the scope of the investigation. This new evidence indicates that these individuals created accounts on betting platforms the day before the game.

They then made specific predictions about Bruno Henrique’s punishment. Therefore, this pattern suggested planned actions for undue financial gain, something deeply regrettable for the sports community.

CBF’s position on the Bruno Henrique case

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) released reports that indicate an abnormal concentration of bets on the match with Santos.

Furthermore, they observed that users opened new accounts on the eve of the match and placed single bets with maximum amounts, focusing on the possibility of Bruno Henrique receiving a card.

This aspect of the investigation highlights how new technologies make sports susceptible to illicit practices. According to CNN, Bruno Henrique’s press office has not commented on the case. He continues to defend Flamengo as usual.
