In an interview with the newspaper O Globo, the president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Carlos Vieira, confirmed the bank’s intention to launch its own bet this year. When asked about the matter, Vieira stated that the bank is finalizing the study process to launch the project.
“We are in the final stages of studies to launch in the first half of the year. We understand that Caixa, a bank that has been involved in lotteries since 1966, could not be left out. Our role as a lottery manager over all these years has greatly helped the system in terms of conscious gaming,” he said.
According to preliminary information, the project would start with a projected revenue of around R$18 billion in two years. According to Vieira, the state-owned company has great potential to become one of the largest sports betting operators in the country.
Caixa Bet physical and virtual
To make the project viable, Caixa has already filed a request for authorization with the Ministry of Treasury to operate online betting.
The institution seeks to combine its traditional role as an operator of traditional lotteries, such as Mega-Sena and Lotofácil, with the new public demands for digital sports betting. At the end of last year, Caixa had already announced that the system adopted by the bank would also accept bets at lottery outlets in addition to the virtual platform.
There are still no details on how the institution will balance its operations in the betting market with government guidelines aimed at preventing abuse. However, Caixa said it promises to strictly follow regulations and offer a safe and responsible service to bettors.
The government is studying measures to control gamblers’ expenses and has already indicated that unregulated companies will be excluded from the market.
Among the actions are the prohibition of the use of credit cards and Bolsa Família to pay for bets, the monitoring of CPFs to monitor bettors’ debts and the creation of new rules for advertising on platforms.
