The Ministry of Treasury sent confidential information to the Bets CPI no Senado about suspected manipulation of results in football. The investigation involves striker Bruno Henrique, from Flamengo, and is focused on the match against Santos for the 2023 Brasileirão.
The confidential document was delivered by the Prizes and Betting Secretariat on December 30th, in response to a request from Senator Romário, CPI rapporteur. The request includes reports prepared by Sportradar and the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).
International cooperation in combating fraud
In 2024, Sportradar and IBIA signed a technical agreement with the Ministry of Treasury. The partnership aims to share information and train professionals to identify and combat manipulations in sports results, often related to betting.
Romário highlighted the relevance of the material for the CPI. According to him, the content provided is “essential” for the progress of investigations and can support operations such as Spot-fixing.
Flamengo maintains support for Bruno Henrique
But, although the details of the report remain confidential, the submission reinforces efforts to uncover possible irregularities in the match between Flamengo and Santos. In this way, cooperation with international entities is a strategic step to strengthen integrity in sport and the betting sector.
Therefore, the CPI continues to investigate the case, while the iGaming and sports betting sector in Brazil faces the challenge of combating illicit practices that affect its credibility.
Regarding the situation, Flamengo used its social networks to demonstrate support for Bruno Henrique on the occasion and highlight the “presumption of innocence”. Therefore, the club declared that it will await investigations before taking any type of action.
