This Wednesday (11), the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting (CPIMJAE) will conduct another session at 10 am.

Ede Vicente Ferreira Júnior, businessman, and Daniel Vasconcelos, president of the Federal District Football Federation, will give their testimonies. The meeting promises to revisit important details about the ongoing investigations.

Ede Vicente Ferreira Júnior’s summons seeks to clarify his participation in the events that highlighted him as a central figure in Operation VAR. This operation was launched by the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro and aims to investigate suspicions of manipulation of results in matches in Series B of the Carioca Football Championship.

One of the games under investigation took place between the Under-20 teams of Nova Cidade and Belford Roxo, held on June 5, 2024. At the time, Ede Ferreira played the role of coach of Nova Cidade and was responsible for the company that managed the U20 team, according to a statement given to the CPI das Apostas by the club’s president, Jorge Luiz Pacheco Eloy.

Senator Romário (PL-RJ), CPI rapporteur, was the one who presented the request for the businessman’s testimony (REQ 175/2024 – CPIMJAE).

On the other hand, Daniel Vasconcelos was invited to give testimony by senator Carlos Portinho (PL-RJ). In October, William Rogatto mentioned Vasconcelos, accusing him of involvement in manipulation schemes and illicit practices in football in Brasília. This mention led to the formal invitation for Vasconcelos to clarify his role and the allegations made against him (REQ 137/2024 – CPIMJAE).
