The Betting CPI postponed Lucas Paquetá’s testimony until December 3rd. The West Ham and Brazilian national team player faces accusations of involvement in a match-fixing scheme in Premier League games between 2022 and 2023.

Testimony from Lucas Paquetá’s uncle is the most awaited

The decision to postpone was taken at the request of Paquetá’s defense. The testimony was scheduled for this Wednesday afternoon, at 2:30 pm, via videoconference. The player’s lawyers justified the new date by claiming that they needed more time to prepare their defense with the English Football Association (FA).

Meanwhile, Paquetá’s uncle, Bruno Tolentino, had his testimony kept until this Wednesday. According to information, Tolentino must remain silent during his participation, supported by a habeas corpus (HC) obtained last Monday (28) at the Federal Supreme Court (STF).

The player’s uncle was summoned after the discovery of a bank transfer of R$40,000 to Luiz Henrique, Botafogo striker, recorded through pix at the beginning of last year.

At that time, Luiz Henrique, who played a prominent role for Real Betis, received some yellow cards in the Spanish Championship. This raised suspicions about his performance, increasing the attention of the competent bodies.

Deloane Bezerra does not appear at the CPI

The English Football Association began an investigation into Paquetá’s conduct. This investigation involves the player’s possible influence on the results of Premier League matches, especially considering cases of yellow card punishments.

If eventually found guilty, Lucas Paquetá could face severe punishment. One of the possible developments would be a ban from English football.

Given this scenario, the outcome of the investigations will not only affect the future of Paquetá, but will also shed light on the risks associated with the manipulation of sports games. Society awaits clarification and the due investigation of the facts.

The person who did not attend the CPI das Apostas last Tuesday (29) was the influencer Deloane Bezerra. She is being investigated for illegal gambling and money laundering. Minister André Mendonça, from the STF, authorized his absence from the commission. So, because of this, the CPI asked for the influencer’s tax and banking secrecy to be broken.

“I deeply regret the absence because those who shouldn’t have no fear, and those who don’t attend know that they are involved up to their necks”, said the president of the CPI, senator Jorge Kajuru (PSB-GO).
