The Asian Football Confederation’s (AFC) determination to protect and safeguard sport in Asia was reinforced today with the signing of a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA).

Union between AFC and IBIA shows commitment to sport

From now on, the AFC and IBIA will work together to detect irregular betting patterns and suspicious activity in football matches in Asia.

IBIA, through its Monitoring and Alert Platform, will share real-time data on suspicious betting activities with the AFC. This will further enhance the AFC’s ability to promptly investigate possible match fixing

AFC General Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs Andrew Mercer said: “The AFC Vision and Mission outline our unwavering ambitions to maintain the highest ethical and sporting standards. Therefore, we are committed to preserving our fundamental principles of fair play and integrity.”

“Leveraging strong collaborations with the world’s leading organizations is critical to our fight against match-fixing. Therefore, this MoU with IBIA further strengthens our ability to ensure that football in Asia remains clean. This will benefit future generations of fans, players and all of our valued stakeholders.”

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, said: “Cooperation is a vital part of any effective integrity monitoring and investigation framework. Therefore, IBIA is very pleased to be able to strengthen its relationship with AFC through this important information-sharing collaboration.”

“In turn, IBIA will seek to protect the AFC ecosystem by utilizing monitoring of its members’ global customer account activity, which encompasses more than $300 billion in sports betting per year,” Ali added.

Mercer added: “The AFC is committed to promoting integrity, ethics and fair play in Asian football. Therefore, we are pleased to work with IBIA as we strive to enhance our capabilities to monitor and address suspicious activity. This will ensure that football in Asia is protected against the threats of match fixing.”
